My first memories of my body were of being chubby. I was a chubby child, I had puppy fat, I had a big appetite. Those are the things I heard and thought about myself. As I became a teenager I managed to keep my weight under control but at university where I could buy and eat what I wanted I soon put on weight. Thus began 20 years of yo-yo dieting. I would try all of the latest diets and be smaller for a while, then I would put on 3 stone. Up and down, up and down.
Fast forward to my 30s, I was living in America and found out I was pregnant. I ended up putting on 4 stone during my first pregnancy, I never fully lost that weight and then 2 years later I became pregnant with my daughter. During this pregnancy I learnt I had gestational diabetes and was injecting insulin to keep my daughter and I healthy and safe. This is where I started to become interested in protein and a balanced diet rather than just fad dieting.
I left my abusive marriage when my daughter was 6 months old, I was post partum, dealing with trauma and emotional eating. To numb the sadness I felt I would eat 2 large bars of Tony’s Chocoloney a night! I got to a point where I was so up and down from the sugar and still hadn’t lost my original baby weight that I was deeply unhappy.
I found the Cambridge diet plan and my coach and haven’t looked back. I am currently still on a journey to tackle my emotional eating but I have managed to remove a lot of the food noise and stabilise my weight under 130lbs which I haven’t been since before Covid in 2020. I am confident, I am healing and better than anything I am learning to love food and be consistent.
