World Diabetes Day

14th November marks World Diabetes Day (WDD) and if you asked me what the two most important facts about diabetes are today, the first one is pretty dire news. Unfortunately, the risk of COVID-19 being fatal is doubled in diabetics. The other is a much more cheerful message: about half of people can reverse their diabetes so that they no longer have the disease!

What is World Diabetes Day?

But before we look into these and other matters, let’s just quickly look at diabetes and the day named after it. WDD is a day to create awareness of a disease that now affects almost one in ten people worldwide. It also causes over four million deaths and costs over half a trillion dollars annually. Type-2 diabetes (the most common form) is a disease caused by a sedentary lifestyle and unhealthy diet. It results in elevated blood sugar levels because the hormone insulin can no longer transfer enough glucose from the blood into the body’s cells, causing a number of damaging effects. The vast majority of diabetics are overweight or obese because the same lifestyle that causes one, causes the other. If you asked me for a third “important fact”, it would be that diabetes rates seem to only be increasing in those who are obese. What all of this means of course, is that for most people, if you treat obesity with weight loss, you improve diabetes.

What’s the research?

This effect has been demonstrated in several studies using the Products we make and based on our Plan. To see more on this, go to our Supported by research webpage - but there has been yet more research that not only backs this up but actually shows an even stronger effect. 61% of subjects in a study published in The Lancet medical journal in 2020 were able to put their diabetes into remission. In doing so, they also lost an average of nearly two stone.

Inspiring success stories

And this kind of thing doesn’t just happen in research studies. Paul Williams, a 50-year-old former DJ from London, lost four stone, no longer takes medication and no longer has diabetes. Check his incredible story out!

Zoe Whitefield lost nine stone and ditched diabetes, when her doctor suggested she try The 1:1 Diet – read it for yourself!

It doesn’t stop there - couple Renee and Bruce McBride each lost over three-and-a-half stone, with Bruce enjoying normal blood sugar levels after just 35 days! Read how they did it.

The beauty of The 1:1 Diet is that it consists of a huge range of food products - meal replacement shakes, soups, bars and other foods - not drugs.
