Welcome to the first article of our Myth Busting series. Working together with our nutritionist, Mark Gilbert, we’re taking a look at the diet industry’s most common myths and busting them with facts and research. To start, we’re exploring whether or not rapid weight loss is bad for you.

Dieting Myth No.1
Rapid weight loss leads to excessive loss of muscle and slowing of metabolism, which is bound to lead to weight gain.
The truth
Studies on our diet and rapid weight loss show that THIS IS NOT TRUE and the metabolic rate does slow down but only by 80-150kcal per day and weight loss CAN BE maintained on our diet.
What’s considered ‘rapid weight loss’?
According to weight loss experts, losing more than 3 pounds a week is considered fast. In your first week, you’ll initially lose a lot of weight, quite quickly - this is often referred to as ‘water weight’. You lose this by cutting down on salt, staying hydrated, and exercising.
With The 1:1 Diet, you’ll have your personalised plan that’s set out by your Consultant. This will include meals, snacks and meal replacements that keep your calorie intake low, but make sure you’re getting all the nutrients you need to stay happy and healthy.
As time goes on and as you keep to your personalised plan, you’ll see the weight drop off at a quick rate, until you reach a healthy BMI.
Is ‘rapid weight loss’ safe?
When done correctly and in a controlled way? Yep, it’s perfectly safe. The diet (together with your Consultant) is scientifically proven to provide all the nutrition you need while reducing your calorie intake safely. There’s so much research to support this, so why not take a look?
Do you get hungry on this diet?
As we said above, your Consultant is there to create a bespoke plan that’s designed especially for you and your needs. A plan that’s designed to help keep you full, so you don’t crave high-calorie treats and takeaways.
But also, there’s some research behind it. Based on interviews with subjects from the DiRECT study, their answers showed that they were surprised how little extra hunger they felt while on The 1:1 Diet.
