The Spark that Started It All: Getting Engaged and Feeling Anxious About THE Dress.

Three years ago, my other half proposed to me in my favourite place, Venice, in the company of some of our closest and dearest friends. It was perfect but completely unexpected (despite being together for 23yrs – but who’s counting?!) Once the initial shock wore off, I found myself overwhelmed with anxiety. The reason? Shopping for a wedding dress. It wasn’t about the wedding itself—it was about how I would look in that dress. I had always struggled with my body image, but the thought of wearing something so beautiful and on display for everyone made me feel nervous. I was worried about how the dress would fit, how I’d feel standing in front of the mirror, and whether I’d feel comfortable in a dress that I was to wear for the most important day of my life. 

That’s when I realized something had to change. I didn’t want my weight to be a source of stress on one of the happiest days of my life. I wanted to feel confident and beautiful in my own skin. So, I made the decision to start my weight loss journey—not for anyone else, but for myself, and for the day I would marry my soul mate.

A few days after the engagement, I turned to Jo and said ‘you need to help me!’. Jo is one of my best friends who has also been a 1:1 consultant for years. I had seen her help so many people transform their lives,  and I realised that, more than anything, I needed someone to keep me motivated, focused, and accountable throughout this journey.

Now, more than three years later, I’m proud of how far I’ve come—and for the support Jo gave me. Weight loss isn’t just about physical change; it’s about mindset, consistency, and having someone by your side. If my story can inspire or support someone else, it’s all worth it. I want to be the light for others, just like Jo was for me.
