7 stone in 26 weeks
Just over 4 years ago, my only daughter was having my first grandchild, a beautiful baby girl! I was lucky to be able to visit them for 3 weeks, but what I hadn’t anticipated was how uncomfortable the journey would be. They live in Australia, a whole world away. Under pressure and cramped in the economy seats for over 27 hours was not a pleasant experience, especially when I weighed 284lbs at my heaviest. It was at this moment, that I realised I had to do something about my weight if I ever wanted to be fit and healthy enough to make the journey to visit my girls again.
While I am a proud man, I can admit that I have an addictive personality. Smoking, drinking and over-eating led me to continue to gain weight and live an unhealthy lifestyle for decades, because to change seemed simply ‘too hard’. I did manage to get off the cigarettes eventually, but every fad diet, every sliming product seemed to have no effect on my weight. Nothing seemed to budge the bulge! It was disheartening to say the least. It affected my mindset, and coupled with stress at work, it was becoming overwhelming. So, last year I decided to make a complete lifestyle change.
By chance, I came across the Cambridge Weight Plan. It sounded too good to be true, but I committed to the diet and saw astounding results very quickly. I was literally feeling lighter every single day and with more energy! I then made another trip to Australia and it was great to sit in a seat and not ask for a seat belt extender!
It was not all plain sailing though. I had plenty of ups and downs, both on the scales and in my mindset. Christmas was the worst setback, which saw me splurging and piling on a few pounds. But I was able to realise that an occasional splurge isn’t a setback, its a treat. I now know I can get back on track with my Plan. After donating all of my XXXL clothing to charity I was shopping for ‘normal’ sized clothes and what an amazing feeling that was!
I have now trained to become a consultant so that I can hopefully help others on their journey to a better life better health and to enjoy their life again. Life is good.
